New ways of working

Project Brief

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Metropolitan Pub Company had to look at new ways to trade under novel restrictions and laws. We activated a number of operational changes, from launching deli shops to implementing a customer Order & Pay system to reduce contact and utilising our partnership with Deliveroo. We put in place a number of safety measures to ensure that our teams and customers were in a safe environment, without losing that ‘pub’ vibe as soon as the stepped through the door.

Beer Mats

We needed to ensure that all tables where sanitised between customers, so we made a beer mat to be placed on each table when it was ready for the host to seat the next customers. On the back, it had a QR code with a link to the pub’s Order & Pay app, so the customer could reduce contact with the staff and movement throughout the premises.


We looked for a uniform that made hosts and cleaning teams recognisable but still held true to Metropolitan Pub Company aesthetic and ways of working. We had a range of canvas aprons embroidered with the different roles that the team would be performing during their shift.


Metropolitan Pub Company had never created a suite of branded POS until this point but we designed all safety signage and POS with subtle branding, to give customers a sense of confidence and trust in the safety measures put in place.


We were offering many different ordering services, including Deliveroo, Click & Collect, Order & Pay and deil shops that had not been in place until this point, so we needed to communicate these new mechanics to our customers. We made a range of creative that could be used across social media, in-pub and email marketing.
